Lion Dick Nasif spoke about our El Cajon Valley Lions Foundation, how it began and its initial funding by PP Bob Hale. The stewardship of those since inception has grown the principal amounts and it is able to help many select worthwhile causes here in East County. Funds come from members’ Wills and Trusts and those monies donated to memorialize the passing of our beloved members. Lion Dick then named those who we have lost in just the past year: PP Richard “Dick” Rogers, PP Ron Paris, Aaron George and several others in the recent past.
Also Lion Dick announced the recent receipt of a $1,000 donation to the Foundation from Doris Huls in memory of her husband PP Trent Huls. Thank you so much Doris! Hardly seems possible that we lost PP Trent 5 years ago 7/29/2012.
Immediate Past President VAN WILLSEY gave his farewell remark “Goodbye” and then thanked his Board and club members for all the support during his very successful year.
At this time IPP Van presented the clubs’ Lions of the Year Award to PP Bob Moreau
and Lion Dick Nasif. Each really stepped up this year above and beyond and helped ‘make things happen’.
Next IPP Van presented the Lions Clubs International Foundation Melvin Jones Award to Lion Dick Nasif. This is the highest award one can receive and all Melvin Jones Fellows welcome Lion Dick into their ranks. Among other things Lion Dick successfully found us our new meeting place at the Elks Lodge and worked with the caterer to allow us to have great meals at a great price. Lion Dick’s efforts have made for a smooth transition for the club and he continues to do whatever is needed to make life easier for our membership.
PDG Len Blottin presented IPP Van with his ‘gavel plaque’ with the thanks of our club for a job well done.
PDG Bucky Blottin then proceeded to install the new Board beginning with the low-list of us up to the President. I do believe there were more people up front than in the audience at this point!
IPP Van then formally passed the Club Gavel and Bell to President Felina Balistreri who proceeded to tell us of her entry and growth in El Cajon Valley Host Lions. Thank you PP Mark Clifton for sending Pres. Felina our way. President Felina…………….where is your gavel?
Lion Elisabeth Vanderlee presented Pres. Felina with a flower bouquet of Congratulations!
Pres. Felina thanked all those on her committees through the past 3 years on her way to this position and hopes the club will continue to work in continuity to continue serving our community.
Additionally Pres. Felina thanked everyone who helped her with the Installation particularly her Committee of Sec Paul Walters, Lion Dick Nasif and Treas Paul Tremblay who also doubled as the MC. Table and room decorations by Leona Black, Lions Dolores Galkowski, Elisabeth Vanderlee and 1st VDG Mercy Walters. Music and photos by Sec Paul Walters and Program by PP Bruce Boorman.
