OPENING

Lion Ray Ridlon opened meeting with a well attended 42 Lions and 3 Guests. Lion Chris Bramwell, Songmaster, led our fellow Lions and guests with a patriotic Air Force song “…off we go into the Wild Blue Yonder!” Pledge of Allegiance was given by Lion PP Roger Stebleton. Prayer & Invocation was recited by Lion Treasurer Paul Tremblay. Helen Keller Quote of the Week was inspirationally given by Lion Carter Short.

GUESTS

Lion PP Kiley Grunstad introduced the following three guests: Wyatt Allan—guest of Lion Chris Bramwell; Chris Benvenueto from Edward Jones Investments—guest of PP Kiley Grunstad and Lion Carl Larson from the Santee Lions Club.

COMMUNICATIONS/ANNOUNCEMENTS, ETC.

Lion Secretary Paul Walters requested fellow Lions to fill out their Service & Activities Reports.

Funeral & Memorial Services for Lion Past President Gordon Bush will be at the El Cajon Elks Lodge on August 16th at 1pm.

Lion PDG Len Blottin encouraged fellow Lions & guests to attend the August 15th Mt. Helix Fundraiser that promotes and ensures the keeping of the cross on Mt. Helix. Tickets cost $50.00 per person. For info & tickets contact PDG Len Blottin at 619.843.3947 (cell).

Let’s keep those City of Hopes cans filled up. One of our tables up front had 100% participation in filling the can!

Membership Report by Lion Secretary Paul Walters—”Let’s make Membership everyone’s business!” invite and bring a friend, guest, business associate to our weekly noon meetings.

“Exempt Badges”—in the flurry of the auction last week…sorry & an oops… forgot to add Lion PP Ray Hackworth $50.00 as one of the winning bids.

A Special Thanks to Lion PP Yvonne Paris for volunteering to help on our Lion Bulletin Editor Team! Lion Yvonne will cover and write the July 20th Bulletin.

 

VP REPORTS

3rd VP David Huntamer had PP Bob Moreau give an update on our upcoming Annual Lions Company Picnic that will be held on Saturday August 8th from 1pm to 6pm at the Moreau Ranch 6102 Dehesa Road in El Cajon.  PP Bob requested help and got some good initial response on forming 6 picnic committees: “Deep Pit Crew”—purchasing the meat, getting it into the ground, etc… PP Don Anthony, PP Bob Moreau, Lion Dave Huntamer & Lion Chris Bramwell. “Bar & Drinks Crew”—purchasing refreshments & 60 lbs of ice, etc… Lion Ray & Lion Mike. “Salads & Horederves  Crew”—Lion Sharie Hoops. “Dessert’s Crew”—Lion PP Yvonne Paris. “Entertainment Crew”—set up a PA system, music, etc…Lion 1st VP Van Willsey. “Horseshoe Competition Crew”—PP Dr. Mark Krause. “Rent a Can” will be covered by Lion David Huntamer. 5 gallons of some great homemade chili will be cooked by Lion Secretary Paul Walters. Thanks for all who signed up on the “Committee Crews”– additional help appreciated, contact Lion Henry Coleman chair or Lion PP Bob Moreau co-chair. “Day at the Races” on July 31st  update was given by PP Gary Sims with all tickets sold and recommend getting there by about 3pm to avoid the possible heavy traffic.  Lion Warren McKenna gave an update on our Padres Night vs. St. Louis Baseball Game on August 21st with 42 tickets sold.

2nd VP Felina Balistreri reported with having Lion Cathy Bailes, Social Services Chair,  gaving an update on participating in the East County Chamber Healthcare Saturday September 26th.  It was suggested that our Lions can provide some vision screening with our SPOT machine and possibly display/demo a new OTA Hearing Testing machine that was awarded to Cajon Valley School District from our Lions Foundation, collect used eyeglasses and promote our Lions Eyeglass Program.

1st VP Van Willsey gave an update on the Camp Jack Program which will have a BBQ kickoff on Sunday July 26th with cook helpers needed to assist Chief Cook Lion Dick Nasif and servers. Prep for the cooking will be between 3-4pm. We could use a few more sign ups for the Teach the Kids to Fish Derby on Tuesday’s, Wednesday’s and Thursday’s. TREASURER REPORT

Lion Treasurer Paul Tremblay gave his monthly and year to date Financial Report with the following highlights: we had some big savings on our Installation of Officers & Board Members; our nice increase in membership realized a nice increase in meal revenues; Gunsmoke V Casino Night raised $2300 more than last year along with making $4600 of funds available for our Lions Foundation Charitable Giving Grants to our Community. As it stands, $7500 has been set aside to fund our Lions Eyeglass Program and $2500 unallocated funds to be used for community funding requests. A Budget Planning Committee will meet very soon to compile a proposed budget for 2015-2016 that will be reviewed by the Board and afterwards approved by our general membership. HAPPY DOLLARS

Lion PP Ray Hackworth shared his Happy Joke of the Week fine free! Lion David Huntamer gave a Happy $20 for missing the Board Meeting and another Happy $20 for a happy to be here! Lion PP Ron Paris gave a Happy $5 for surviving another Over the Line Tournament on Fiesta Island! Lion PP Phil Smith was asked to pay up for his photo in the newspaper with Mayor Wells! Lion Mike Raney gave a Happy $10 for a glad for a little rest with school year ending and an upcoming trip to Dallas! Lion PP Yvonne Paris gave some Happy Dollars in attending the Rancho Bernardo Blind Stoker’s Club Bike Ride Fundraiser! Lion Sharie Hoops gave some Happy Dollars for a glad to hear PP Mark Clifton is home from the hospital after his recent car accident! Lion Bob Acker gave some Happy Dollars for being caught in some of the huge Comi Con crowds! Lion Secretary Paul Walters gave a Happy $5 for a glad to see our guest today Wyatt Allan and hope he considers joining our club! Lion President Ray Ridlon gave a Happy $5 for having some guests at his house from Scotland and taking them to see the impressive Hoover Dam! Lion PDG Len Blottin gave a Happy $5 for the Comi Con Convention—which brings in some great business revenue to our San Diego area Community!

TRIBUTE TO LION PP GORDON BUSH


A GREAT MAN! EL CAJON—Gordon W. Bush passed away on Monday June 22, 2015 at the age of 94. Gordon was born on May 3, 1921 in Grygla, Minnesota, and happily married to Reola Bush for 61 years. He served in the United States Army during World War II, during which time he was awarded ‘the Silver Cross’ for bravery above and beyond the call of duty. He lived in El Cajon, Ca. as a Real Estate Broker and Developer. He owned Cajon Realty on Broadway. He was an active member of the El Cajon Elk’s Club and the El Cajon Lions Club. He is survived by his daughters Chris R. Ladd and family of El Cajon, Ca. and Cindy Walters and family of Apple Valley, Ca. He is also survived by his sister, Marian Krauss of El Cajon, Ca. Leaving many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great-grandchildren who were all the ‘Apple of His Eyes’. He also leaves many nieces and nephews. A service will be held at the Elk’s Lodge in El Cajon on Sunday April 16th at 1:00pm. His wishes were in lieu of flowers, please send a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association in Gordon and Reola Bush’s name. HE TOUCHED US ALL IN SO MANY WAYS!
