OPENING

Lion President Ray Ridlon and his new Board Members & Officers for 2015-2016 opened the meeting with a well attended 39 Lions & 3 guests.

Lion Chris Bramwell, our new Song master, led our fellow Lions and guests in singing the “Battle Hymn of the Republic”. Pledge of Allegiance was led by Lion PP Tom Normandie. Prayer & Invocation was given by Lion PP Phil Smith. Helen Keller Quote of the Week was inspirationally given by Lion Carter Short.

GUESTS

Lion IPP Mercy Walters introduced the following 3 guests: Past District Governor Scott Leslie from the Spring Valley Lions; Chris Benvenuto, from Edward Jones Investments—guest of Lion PP Kiley Grunstad and Grant Thiem III—son & guest of Lion PP Grant Thiem.

COMMUNICATIONS/ANNOUNCEMENTS, ETC.

Lion PP Yvonne Paris was warmly welcomed as our newest El Cajon Valley Host Lions Club Member who transferred from the El Cajon Heartland Lions.

Lion Secretary Paul Walters reported that we received a nice Thank You Letter from a 23 year old college student who got her much need glasses replaced. Lion Cathy & Keith Bailes, Social Services Chairs, were thanked for their good follow-up on making it all happen!

Lion PDG Scott Leslie gave an update on the Heartland Zone Wine Tasting Tour on Saturday July 25, 2015 from 8:30am-5:00pm. Come enjoy the company of your fellow Heartland Zone Lions as we tour the Salerno,  Grant James and Turtle Rock Winery. Registration deadline is July 11th with checks payable to Singing Hills Lions Club, PDG Bucky Blottin, 1219 Vista Grande Road, El Cajon Ca 92019. Tickets are $30 each person. A chartered bus for 29 people is available for an additional $30 a person which covers transportation and driver gratuity (please RSVP as soon as possible if you would like to use the bus). Bus riders will meet at So Cal Air Conditioning, 1000 North Johnson, El Cajon at 8:30am and depart promptly at 8:45am.

PDG Len Blottin announced a Heart of Mt. Helix Fundraiser on August 15, 2015 that promotes and ensures the keeping of the cross on Mt. Helix. PDG Len encouraged fellow Lions to try and fill a table with 10 of our Lions. A shuttle would be picking up attendees from the Grossmont High School parking lot. Ticket costs are $50 per person. Our next Lions Board meeting will be this Wednesday July 8th at 6pm at PDG Len Blottin office on 1000 N. Johnson. Please notify Lion President Ray Ridlon or Secretary Paul Walters if you cannot attend as a Board Member. As always, all Lions are invited to our ECVH Lions Board Meetings.

LIONS BIRTHDAY’S

The following Lions were warmly greeted with a Happy Birthday song for their birthday’s in July: Lion PP Ed Waymire—July 10th; Lion Mike Carleton—July 19th; Lion Treasurer Paul Tremblay—July 26th and Lion PP Tom Hoban—July 31st.

EXEMPT BADGES

A flurry of bidding for the Exempt Badges resulted in the following winning bids: Lion Chris Bramwell $100.00 (for selling off some of his Porsche car collection!); Lion PP Grant Thiem $60 (for his 30th wedding anniversary in Hawaii!); Lion Treasurer Paul Tremblay $60 (for an upcoming trip to Maine with fiancé & taking his daughter to nursing school in Denver!) and Lion President Ray Ridlon $60 (for any upcoming possible faux pas & asking for forgivenesses in advance as new Lions President!)

VP REPORTS

3rd VP David Huntamer, report covered by 1st VP Van Willsey. Lion Warren McKenna gave an update on August 21st Padres Night Baseball—we have  37 sign ups in section 121 field level and pregame get together at McCormack & Schmidt’s Restaurant. Lion PP Gary Sims gave an update on Days at the Races July 31st—all tickets have been sold and looking forward to some good betting and fun!

2nd VP Felina Balistreri. Our new Lions Eyeglass Program Chair, Chris Bramwell will be meeting with his Eyeglass Committee on July 16th to plan upcoming year to put plenty of glasses on students in our 7 East County School Districts.

1st VP Van Willsey, reported on the Camp Jack Program, which is coming up soon with the kick off BBQ on Sunday July 26th at Camp Oliver—we’ll need help on the cooking & serving. Lion PP Ray Hackworth mentioned that sign up sheets for helping the kids learn to fish are on the tables. We’ll have 3 days of fishing each week Tuesday’s, Wednesday’s & Thursday’s and could use at least 3 Lions each day to help out—the more the merrier! Contact Lion Dave Huntamer, Camp Jack Chair to sign up or if you have any questions.

Lion President Ray Ridlon gave an overview of his Lions Convention visit to Hawaii: the convention was very well attended with Lions from all over the world. Lion Ray was able to participate in exchange of pins by sharing his Viet Nam Army Pin with a Lion from Japan. He attended a good informational workshop on Membership that encouraged “Lion Visibility”—wearing your Lions pin, vests, wearing Lions shirts in public, posting Lions decals on your car with Lions personalized license plates, etc. Another workshop focuses on having Lions Clubs perform “Community Needs Assessments” by inviting local officials, mayors, police departments, etc to express how Lions can help address some of the needs in our local communities.

Bulletin Editor Mike Wasyliw is looking for some help on writing our great weekly Lions Bulletin. We are flexible, and you can help by writing the bulletin weekly or every other week. Contact Lion Mike if you would like to give it a try. You can be a part of our outstanding Lion Bulletin Team that includes: Lion PP Bruce Boorman who does our Layout & Newsletter by Parker Systems Printing, Lion Warren McKenna who posts our Bulletin on our Website, Lion PP Dick Rogers our Publicity Chair and bulletin writer (in a much appreciated pinch when needed to cover for vacations, unexpected or occasional absences, etc).

HAPPY DOLLARS

Lion Tail Twister Bob Acker collected the following Happy Dollars & Happy Dollar Fines: Lion PP Gary Sims gave a Happy $10 for an upcoming 35th Wedding Anniversary and an upcoming July 17th concert to see a new band called “Earth, Wind & Fire”—some great oldies but goodies! and refinancing of his home that has resulted in a $800 per month savings! Lion Mike Carleton gave a Happy $10 for a sorry to have missed the Installation Dinner when up the coast on a  trip seeing 7 different species of sea turtles! Lion Cathy Bailes gave a Happy $10 for all our women in our Lions Club who have done so much during the past year! Lion Bob Acker gave a Happy $10 for a new car purchased by his wife! Lion Secretary Paul Walters gave a Happy $5 for a happy to see PP Yvonne Paris join our ECVH Lions Club!

El Cajon Mayor, Bill Wells, will be re-scheduled as a speaker to give us an update on the future of businesses in El Cajon.
