OPENING
Newly elect Lion President Mercy Walters opened the meeting at 12:30pm. It was good to see our Lion President Mercy Walters and Lion Secretary Paul Walters back after their trip last week from the Lions International Convention in Toronto Canada. Lion PP Ron Paris led our Lions in singing “God Bless America”. Pledge of Allegiance was led by Lion PDG Len Blottin. Prayer & Invocation was recited by Lion PP Mark Clifton. Helen Keller Quote of the Week was inspirationally given by Lion Carter Short.

Lion IPP Kiley Grunstad introduced our two guests: Justin Steward, Bank Manager of Opus Bank, guest of Grant Thiem and Chris Bramwell, guest of Lion PP Bob Moreau. Good to see our Lion members bringing in guests and possible prospective new Lions.
COMMUNICATIONS/CORRESPONDENCE/ANNOUNCEMENTS, ETC.
Newly elect Lion Secretary Paul Walters reported that Stoney’s Kids Birthday Annual Fundraising Event that benefits East County Youth will be held on Thursday August 21st at Sycuan Resort with tickets at $25.00 each. District 4L6 Installation Dinner will be held on Saturday July 26th at the East County Board of Realtors with tickets at $35.00 each. Call Lion Secretary Paul Walters for any additional info. Thank You card was received from the principal at the Madison Elementary School for the great Lions sponsored Flag Day. Another Thank You card was received from Dan Monteverde our guest last week from the Kernel’s Kettle Corn Company thanking our Lions for our very warm welcoming of guests. Lions Social Media Workshop will be held on Tuesday July 22nd 6:30pm at the Blind Community Center of San Diego 1805 Upas St. San Diego. This workshop can be a good membership building & publicity tool for our ECVH Lions Club.
LION CHEVRON AWARDS
Kudo’s & Congratulations to Lion PP Gary Sims who was awarded his Lions Chevron 20 years Pin Award and Lion Arnold Martin who was awarded his 35 years Chevron Pin. Lion President Mercy Walters expressed her deep appreciation to Lion Gary and Lion Arnold for their incredible years of dedicated and faithful service to the El Cajon Valley Host Lions Club.
VP REPORTS
3RD VP Roy “Rocco” Collura was excused due to a business trip to Dallas Texas for a training on his new precious metals business. Lion PP Don Anthony reported that Lion Rocco indicated that all his Lions chair positions have been filled and the Mother Goose Parade Float Lions Team is forming with a special thanks to Lion Jeff Winters who is lining us up with a trailer for the parade. Lion PP Gary Sims reported that Day at the Races ticket sales is sold out (with possible 1 ticket that still may be available). Ticket cost is $25.00 with event on August 1st 4pm at the Del Mar Race Track.
2nd VP Van Willsey reported that he was glad to be back after a short absence and was surprised to see that he did not receive a “Where the heck are you—we miss you!” Post Card from Lion PP Ray Hackworth. Next Adopt a Street Cleanup will be on Saturday July 19th 7:30am meeting at Clifton Motors. Our Lions Eyeglass Program Chair, Mike Wasyliw, reported that during the past fiscal year we put 144 glasses on students at the various East County School Districts. Our new SPOT vision screening machine funded by our El Cajon Valley Host Lions came in last week and will be shared (this upcoming fiscal year) at three of our East County school districts during the next school year along with using the device at some of our community health fairs, etc. If you would like to help as a co-chair with our Lions Eyeglass Program contact Lion Mike Wasyliw (help will be needed when Lion Mike will be on a hike to Spain from September 17th-Nov 10th).
1stVP Ray Ridlon excused absence on vacation in Israel. Lion PP Ray Hackworth gave an update on the Camp Jack Program that will be kicking off this Sunday July 20th with a BBQ –Lions report at 4pm to help the BBQ chef & cooks & help on serving the dinner . All Lions are invited to attend and help at the BBQ as well as the Fishing Clinics that will be held on July 22-23rd and July 29-30th—Lion volunteers are asked to be at Lake Cuyamaca at 8am (call Lion PP Bob Moreau for any additional fishing info). Lion Dave Huntamer, Camp Jack chair, is currently on vacation and will be back soon for our Camp Jack Program that will feature 144 disadvantaged/at risk kids the opportunity to enjoy an incredible week long camping & fishing experience!
Lion PP Dick Rogers, Publicity Chair, reported that we got some great press from the East County Herald on our Lions Installation Dinner that will also be displayed on our Lion Website.
HAPPY DOLLARS
Two additional “Welcome Back!” Exempt Badges at $55 each were awarded to Lion President Mercy Walters and Lion Paul Walters.
Lion PP Ray Hackworth kicked off our Happy Dollars & Happy Dollar Fines with his Joke of the Week.
Lion PP Bob Moreau, Tail Twister, collected the following Happy Dollars & Happy Dollar Fines: Lion Grant Thiem gave a Happy $20 for winning a recent prestigious golf tournament! Lion PP George Hurst gave a Happy $5 for a penny in his water glass?! Lion PP Gary Sims gave a Happy $5 admitting that he had some knowledge about the penny in glass! Lion Mike Raney gave a Happy $20 for a good to be back and our fabulous ECV LEO’s who were awarded the District 4L6 LEO’s of the Year! Lion Bob Acker gave a Happy $5 to report that bass fishing has been very good for him! Lion Mike Carleton gave a Happy $20 for a camping in Baja and fun at the Over the Line Tournament!
SPEAKER
Lion IPP Kiley Grunstad was our surprise featured “off the cuff” speaker who shared some thoughts about the Stock Market & Financial Markets. He did some research on the Standard & Poor’s stock market where over the past 1,000 days there has not been a significant correction of the market (10% or more market correction). Lion Kiley quipped that when you think about it, more or less, “we are getting back to normal!” Our country is doing well, where lots of more people are joining the middle class in the United States as well as all over the world!
