PROGRAM:

Tiana Babcock-NMCSD (Naval Medical Center San Diego) re: Fisher Houses for the military’s wounded and injured.  This is like the Ronald McDonald House but for military.

There are 3 Fisher Houses in San Diego, two on the Balboa Hospital site and one at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton.  Each of the two at Balboa can house 9 families and Camp Pendleton’s one facility can house 12 families.  The houses typically run at 80% occupancy but when they fill up then the Fisher House Foundation pays for hotel rooms for the family of the patient.

Qualifications are to be military connected and to live 40 miles+ from a facility.  The average stay is 7-10 days.  There are currently 81 houses, 3 in Europe and the remainder in the U.S..

Because they are a government non-profit they cannot do direct fund raising

Side note:  when PP Ray Ridlon had his terrible infection a couple of years ago in L.A., he was treated there and his wife was given a room in a Fisher House.

Anyone wishing to donate go to www.fisherhouse.org and for more information contact one of the Houses directly or go to info@fisherhouse.org.
