PROGRAM:
Cindy Silver – Signs and symptoms of ovarian cancer
Cindy, Sue and Lynn shared their personal ovarian cancer stories. Each of these ladies is MY HERO for what they have endured and survived to tell about it.
This is a very important subject as all women are at risk and ovarian cancer is the deadliest of the gynecological cancers. Pap smears detect cervical cancer NOT ovarian cancer. Symptoms may be subtle but when detected early and treated properly, more than 90% of women survive longer than 5 years.
Ovarian cancer symptoms are: bloating, difficulty eating or feeling full quickly, a need to urinate often or urgently, pelvic or abdominal pain and others commonly reported are fatigue, indigestion, back pain, constipation, menstrual irregularities and pain with intercourse.
Women need to advocate for themselves and see a doctor, preferably a gynecologist, if any of these symptoms occur almost daily for more than a few weeks and they are unusual.
Risk factors are: never having had children, familial connection to cancer of any kind, never having taken birth control pills, beginning ovulation early (very young when first menstrual cycle occurred.
Thanks to PP Don Anthony for setting up his sister Cindy and her ‘sisters’ on this great program.
