Lion President Bill Sturgeon opened the meeting at 12:30pm with Lion PP Jerry Hollingsworth, Song Master, leading our Lions in singing “God Bless America”. Pledge of Allegiance was led by Lion PP Bruno Cirello. Prayer & Invocation was recited by Lion Paul Tremblay. Inspirational Helen Keller Quote for the Week was passionately recited by Lion PP Roger Stebleton.

Lion IPP Don Anthony introduced our guests that included: Cory Clifton, son of Lion PP Mark Clifton and David Huntingmen from Window Solutions—here for his 3rd meeting.

ANNOUNCEMENTS & CALENDAR OF EVENTS

Lion Paul Tremblay gave a strong persuasive pitch on the value of purchasing our Entertainment 2013 Coupon Books. A two for one meal at the popular Humphrey’s or the Fish House easily saves you 40 Bucks and half of the Entertainment Books Sales benefit our Lions Club. A gentle reminder was given to keep our City of Hope Cans filled as much as possible each week.

We were saddened to hear about the death of Lion Paul Walters mother this past week and the loss of Reola Bush, beloved wife of Lion PP Gordon Bush who passed away on November 15th.

Lion PP Jerry Hollingsworth reported that all Lions & Friends are invited to the Boys & Girls Club new Teen Center Grand Opening on December 5th at 10am at Wells Park.

Lion PP Roger Stebleton reported that Lions “Home Town Day” will be on December 11th at the Parkway/Westfield Plaza in El Cajon starting at 7am. Come out and wear your vests . Approx. 35 kids will be screened by LensCrafters who will cover all the eye screening costs for Home Town Day.

Lion 1st VP Kiley Grunstad gave an encouraging report on the Stock Market where “corrections & dips” are pretty normal and recent stock market highs & lows are not necessarily a result of political & election changes.

VP REPORTS

3rd VP Ray Ridlon reported that the Mother Goose Parade went very well! Numerous Lions paraded with our Lions Float that included 9 Leo’s and children of 1st VP Lion Kiley Grunstad.

A Special Thanks to Lion Jeff Winters who bravely drove our Lions Float vehicle (that looked great but had a slight mechanical challenge of almost overheating!)CentennialFloat Lions Christmas Baskets Drive is progressing well with good advance planning by Lion Roy “Rocco” Collura who made a plea for donations and volunteer help for the distribution of the Baskets on December 22nd. Holiday Christmas Party is on December 17th and RSVP signups are due on or before December 10th to Lion PP Dick Rogers.

2nd VP Mercy Walters excused from meeting due to death in the family.

1st VP Kiley Grunstad reported that our Lions Float in the City of El Cajon Centennial and Mother Goose Parade was awesome!

HAPPY DOLLARS

Lion PP Ray Hackworth was introduced by Lion President Bill Sturgeon to share a Happy Joke of the Week that was supposedly emailed from International about little Johnny who was too smart for the 1st grade. Lion Bob Acker, Tail Twister, collected the following Happy Dollars and Happy Fines: Lion President Bill Sturgeon gave a Happy $2 for the good Mother Goose Parade! Lion PP Roger Stebleton requested that Lion PP Elmer Vierkant update his $10 fine (which paid for only two wheels?) from last week for his incredible Mercedes car purchase that was showcased at the Clifton Mercedes Showroom. Lion Elmer indicated that it’s a fun car and his new pride & joy! Lion PP Mark Clifton gave a Happy $20 for brokering the sale of Lion PP Roger & Pat Stebleton’s Mercedes! Lion IPP Don Anthony gave a Happy $5 for participating in the Centennial Parade—and thanked all the fellow Lions who helped on the City of El Cajon Centennial and Mother Goose Parade. Lion PP Gary Sims gave a generous Happy $100.00 earmarked for the Lions Christmas Baskets and kudos to UCLA for beating USC! Lion Roy “Rocco” Collura gave a Happy $5 donation. Guest David Huntingmen gave a Happy $5 for his son’s picture in the media—good to see a potential Lion making a Happy Dollars donation! Lion PP Bob Moreau reported that Lion President Bill Sturgeon was on TV with no mention made of being a Lion! Lion President Bill Sturgeon responded with a Happy $20. Lion 1st VP Kiley Grunstad gave a generous Happy $100.00 designated for the Lions Christmas Baskets and Lion PP Roger Stebleton gave a matching generous $100.00 for the Lions Christmas Baskets. Lion Arnold Martin gave a Happy $3 for the neat Lions Float and raised a question about liability insurance on covering Lions, Leo’s and children on the float. Lion Bob Acker gave a Happy $10 for his South Dakota pheasant hunting trip—that was very successful!

ATTENDANCE DRAWING & CLOSING ANNOUNCEMENTS

Lion Cindy Buchanan drew the Attendance Drawing Winner that was awarded to Lion PP Mark Clifton. Please keep PP Lion Gordon Bush and Lion Paul Walters in your Thoughts & Prayers– for Lion Gordon’s loss of dear wife Reola and Lion Paul’s loss of his mother. And don’t forget that Lions Pin you wear on your collar represents that you belong to the greatest service organization in the world…The El Cajon Valley Host Lions Club “2011-2012 District 4L6 large Lions Club of the Year.” WEAR YOUR LIONS VEST NEXT MEETING!
