OPENING

Lion President Kiley Grunstad opened the meeting at 12:30pm. Lion PP Jerry Hollingsworth, Songmaster, gustily led our Lions in singing “You’re a Grand ole Flag!” Pledge of Allegiance was proudly led by Lion PP Don Anthony. Prayer & Invocation was eloquently recited by Lion Treasurer Paul Tremblay. Helen Keller Quote of the Week was inspirationally given by Lion Sharie Hoops.

GUESTS

The following guests were introduced: Lion Cindy Marquette—North East Region Chair, Alycia Abrams—50/50 Winner @ Pancake Breakfast and Scott Nyberg—featured guest speaker from General Atomics.

Lion Northeast Chair Cindy Marquette gave a thank you for us having some gluten free products at the Pancake Breakfast and announced Pre-Cabinet Meeting on November 2nd and Cabinet Meeting on November 9th. Heartland Lions are taking orders for their annual Poinsettia Plants sale. District 4L6 Christmas Party will be held on December 7th.

PANCAKE BREAKFAST HIGHLIGHTS

We had another great successful Pancake Breakfast on October 27th that was well attended by plenty of folks from our local community and lots of Lions & friends from all over the county. We sold over 217 breakfast tickets, the Blue Grass Band was fabulous, the food was outstanding and we had some great publicity on TV! A Special Thanks to the following Lions who made it all happen: Lion PP Don Anthony & Lion Ron Black—Co Chairs of the event. Registration—Lion Secretary PP Gary Robinson & Lion Treasurer Paul Tremblay. Kitchen Crew— Lion Chef Dick Nasif, Lion PP Don Anthony, Lion Bob Acker, Lion Dave Huntamer, Lion Roy “Rocco” Collura, Lion Mike Raney, Lion PP Dr. Mark Krause (Adjustment Specialist). Membership Table—Lion Paul Walters & Lion 1st VP Mercy Walters, Raffle/Door prizes for promoting Membership Drive—Lion Christian Willie and Lion Mike Wasyliw. Hall Set-up & Helpers—Lion President Kiley Grunstad, Lion Warren McKenna (ticket collection), Lion PP Mike Mortallero (Banner Maker & display of banner on corner of Magnolia & Main), Lion Ron Black (purchase of food supplies & getting our Storage Locker back into ship shape after the event). 50/50 Opportunity Drawing was well handled by Lion Sharie Hoops. Plenty of LEO’s helped on the coffee & condiment line. Congratulations again to all who made the Pancake Breakfast an outstanding fun(d) raising event!

VP REPORTS

3rd VP Van Willsey reported that our Lions Visitation Team, Lion PP Ron Paris and Lion Sharie Hoops, visited the La Mesa Lions on October 22nd. Next scheduled November Visitations will be to the Santee Lions on Tuesday November 5th at 6:30pm @ Sizzler’s Restaurant 1030 Fletcher Parkway El Cajon and to the Harbison Lions on Thursday November 21st at the Ironsides Park Community Center 326 Harbison Canyon Rd El Cajon. Christmas Baskets report was given by Lion Roy “Rocco” Collura who mentioned that he met with Salvation Army to coordinate ordering of dry goods food at special discounts saving us costs and opportunity to serve many more needy families with our Christmas Food Baskets. Lion volunteers will be needed to pick up the food at the Food Bank. Mother Goose Float update by Lion Van reported that we will use our existing vehicle & platform and working on the design with Lion PP Ron Snow.

2nd VP Ray Ridlon reported that Adopt a Street Community Cleanup will be held this Wednesday October 30th at 7:30am, meeting at Clifton Motors. Featured speaker next week will be Captain Terry Munsingo from the Salvation Army.

1st VP Mercy Walters congratulated all fellow Lions for our great and very successful Pancake Breakfast!

HAPPY DOLLARS

Today was Lions Vest Day and Lion Tail Twister PP Bob Moreau collected the following Happy Dollars & Happy Dollar fines: Lion PP Bob Moreau was reminded by Lion Bob Acker about his big poker game winnings and was asked to ante up some Happy Dollars—which was paid! Lion David Huntamer gave a Happy $10 for missing vest and for the great time at the Pancake Breakfast! Lion Ron Black gave a Happy $5 for missing the Pancake Breakfast –but his family was there! Lion Paul Walters gave a Happy $5 thanking his Membership Committee for all their help at the Pancake Breakfast! Lion Dick Nasif mentioned he had $20 dollars on his Happy Dollars account ??? and was very happy cooking/chefing at the Pancake Breakfast! Lion Bob Acker gave a Happy $5 for his missing vest! Lion Mike Carlton, in abstentia, gave a Happy $20 for his trip to Kentucky and tasting some great bourbon, seeing some emir’s race horses and celebrating his wife’s 50th High school reunion! Lion Sharie Hoops gave a Happy $5 for the successful Pancake Breakfast and mentioned that Lion Rocco’s Sandy sold over $200 in pancake tickets! Lion Christian Willie gave a whopping $225 Happy Dollars and recognized our East County Boys & Girls Club for the great work they do, friends donating 50 lbs. of veggie meat to local charities, food for LEO’s meetings and the nice City of Hope Diabetes Awareness station at our Pancake Breakfast!

SPEAKER

Lion 2nd VP Ray Ridlon, Speaker Chair, introduced Scott Nyberg our featured speaker from General Atomics. Mr. Nyberg gave a very interesting and informative presentation on the General Atomics Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Program that helps with our Border Protection, Forest Fire Support and Military Operations.

ATTENDANCE DRAWING & CLOSING THOUGHTS

Attendance Drawing picks were Lion Dr. David Keen, Lion John Martin and Lion PP Ed Waymire who were not in attendance at today’s meeting. The winnings were rolled over until the next meeting.

Please keep Elaine Simmons, wife of Lion PP Walt Simmons in your Thoughts & Prayers. Elaine passed away on October 23rd. Date and time of services will be announced at a later date.
