PROGRAM:

Ed Waymire on being “The Grinch”

Ed got started in 2016 getting his costume made in England and on to Hollywood for lessons in makeup.  Ed already had the comedic/acting talent to pull this off as he spent the 70’s and 80’s (20 years) in the entertainment business. He also hosted a Concert on the Green in El Cajon for 12 years.

His first gig was at Dr. Terry Winegar’s staff Christmas Party in 2017.  Then he went to Santee’s Candy Cane Lane and his presence made a big impression.  In his 3rd year, he got a booking agent.  In 2020 The Grinch performed at the Padres Xmas Party with players, managers, scouts, owners, and their families along with some VIP fans.  He continued to do that for several years.

At one of Ed’s gigs 2 young (autistic) children made such a positive impression on him that he knew he was doing the right thing, and all the hard work, time and money was worth the effort. In 2022 Ed made 55 appearances before Xmas but he has since cut back to 25 as the prep time is about 1-1/2 hours for costume and make-up. He has now retired but will do one last gig – our Christmas Party on December 10th.
