OPENING
Lion President Bill Sturgeon opened the meeting at 12:30pm. Lion PP Jerry Hollingsworth, Songmaster, led our Lions in singing “God Bless America”. Pledge of Allegiance was led by Lion Arnold Martin. Prayer & Invocation was recited by Lion Christian Willie. Helen Keller Quote of the Week was inspirationally recited by Lion Sharie Hoops “Science may have found a cure for most evils; but it has found no remedy for the worst of them all—the apathy of human beings.”
ANNOUNCEMENTS & MAIL BAG CORRESPONDENCE
Steak Fry on Saturday June 8th at residence of Lion PP Tom Hoban. All Lions are welcome to enjoy a great steak and to share accomplishments during the past year as well as learning about the great history of our Lions Club—please RSVP to Lion PP Ron Paris.

Lion PP Ray Hackworth announced that Coach Fisher from the San Diego Aztecs Basketball Team will be the featured speaker at the La Mesa Lions meeting on Tuesday May 14th at their noon meeting at the La Mesa Community Center.

3RD VP Ray Ridlon—excused absence.
2nd VP Mercy Walters reported that Saturday June 8th will be Lions Learning Day in Escondido. All new Lions officers are encouraged to attend. Also, Steak Fry will be held on the evening of June 8th at residence of Lion PP Tom Hoban 618 Bradford St. El Cajon–please RSVP with Lion PP Ron Paris. Upcoming Lions International Board Meeting will be held here in San Diego. No Adopt a Street this month but will resume in June.
1st VP Kiley Grunstad asked to “Keep selling those tickets!”—75 have been sold to date for the Friday May 31st 5pm-8pm Summer Escape Drawing. Donations to bring or underwrite cost of beverages & spirits from Lion members gladly accepted. June 15th Installation of Lions Officers Dinner—36 sign ups as of last Monday. Please RSVP with Lion PP Dick Rogers for the Installation Dinner.
HAPPY DOLLARS
Lion PP Ray Hackworth kicked off the Happy Dollars with his Joke of the Week and contributed a Happy $5. Lion Bob Acker did an incredible job as the Tail Twister getting Happy Dollars & Happy Fines from100% of the Lions at the meeting! Lion PP Bob Moreau gave a Happy $5 for granddaughter’s 4 gold medals in CIF swimming! Lion Mike Carleton gave a Happy $5 for having to bail out Lion Dick Nasif! Lion Roy “Rocco” Collura gave a Happy $5 mentioning some kind of letter! Lion 1st VP Kiley Grunstad gave a Happy $5 for seeing a Padre win! Lion David Huntamer gave a Happy $20 for his Mothers Day celebration at the beach! Lion PP Dick Rogers was asked to give a Happy $5 for his interrupting! Lion PP Mark Clifton gave a Happy $10 for a special tool in his tool box for Lion PP Gary Sims! Lion PP Bruce Boorman received a Happy E-Mail from Lion PP Roger Stebleton in Costa Rica with a pledge of $500 for our Lions Summer Escape Drawing! Lion Ron Black gave a Happy $5 for his close brush with the Lakeside fire pretty close to his home! Lion PP Ron Paris gave a Happy $5 for our Lions who attended the La Mesa Lions Spaghetti Fundraiser! Lion Frank Galkowski gave a Happy pink slip donation for having a very Happy Mother’s Day Celebration! Thanks again, all Lions, for your 100% giving in Happy Dollars & Happy Fines!!
