“Literature is my Utopia. Here I am not disenfranchised. No barrier of the senses shuts me out from the sweet, gracious discourses of my book friends. They talk to me without embarrassment or awkwardness”.

Announcements/Good of the Order

Scott Hollingsworth notified Roger that $20,000 has been donated to our foundation. Each of the next 4 years an additional, like amount, will be donated for a total of $100,000 from Jerry and Judy Hollingsworth. We had hoped that the Hollingsworth siblings could be present today but alas it was not to be. Treasurer Paul T said the check is ‘in the mail’ as apparently it was misdirected but is being tracked by the post office.

Chris reported the club will purchase a 5-year warranty on only 2 of the 3 SPOT machines. It would be too expensive to purchase a warranty for the oldest of the 3 machines.

3rd Veep  – Keith MacArthur

Congratulations to Phil Smith and his crew for putting together our Christmas Party on Dec 2nd.  Entertainment was The Balloon Elf, The Grinch and Santa. This year’s background music came from pre-recorded Christmas tunes and the children had a great time dancing around with each other. Phil arranged for newspaper coverage by the East County Community Times and photos were taken by Jay Renard.

Bob Moreau reports we will feed 80 families, the turkeys have been ordered and the food shopping will be done this week. Thanks for Chris and Gary R for volunteering their pickups to haul the food from the store to Tom Hoban’s business location.

Membership Chair Cathy BailesBob Sanchez submitted his application today

PP Ray’s Ramblings:

A blonde wanted to show her hubby she was resourceful so decided to paint the house. When he found her laying on the floor, exhausted, he asked why she was wearing a ski jacket over a fur coat and her reply was “the can said for best results put on 2 coats”.

HAPPY DOLLARS AND OTHER NONSENSETT Bob Moreau

Exempt Badges for December:  Tom Hoban paid $100 for the badge for Terry Winegar and Chris paid $3,000 for a 6-month Exempt Badge – WOWEE!!!

Time for $100 donations to our Christmas Family Basket Program and for that you get a pie of your choice from The Brother Restaurant in Grantville (Kathy Moreau-Coleman).

Since all funds raised today and including last Thursday evenings event, go toward our Christmas Basket Program, our members generosity has been overwhelming. Between last Thursday when approx. 20 members donated $100-$2,000, and today’s meeting when approx. 10 members donated $100-$3,000 our goal of $5,000 has been met and exceeded. Last Thursday Tom H donated $2,000 and Chris gave $1,000.

Treasurer Paul T said total donated for this worthy program is $8,675.

PROGRAM:

Chief Mike Moulton, El Cajon PD

Chief Mike has been chief for 2 years but has 26 years with the EC PD, originally hired by retired Chief Bob Moreau. He is a local boy and from Descanso where he grew up.

He is very happy that the Mayor and City Council are in favor of good policing and strong on privacy issues.

The ECPD handles about 70,000 calls a year with total staffing of 126. San Diego PD officers have applied for lateral transfers to ECPD and with the City Councils approval they can be added which will then maintain the 126 number through retirement and attrition.

Mental health and drug addiction are the primary causes of homelessness in East County and make up for a good number of ongoing calls as offenders can only be held 2-3 days and then they are back on the streets.

There will be a Citizens Police Academy in the Spring of 2022 and the date will be confirmed as we get closer to that time.

UPCOMING PROGRAMS:

Jan 26, 2022: Michelle and Carol Sing both of whom swam the English Channel.

Mar 3rd:  District 2 Supervisor Joel Anderson

WINNER OF ATTENDANCE DRAWING Sharie Hoops MIA so next week $20

WINNER OF OPPORTUNITY DRAWING Dolores Galkowski $66 – donated to our foundation
