PROGRAM:
Bonnie Baranoff and Annamarie Piconi Snyder from East County Homeless Task Force. The task force began in 2016 as a program for the San Diego East County Chamber Foundation.
East County has the 2nd highest homeless population in the County. Emergency services for the homeless are abailable ONLY in El Cajon the the entire East County. East County has over 1,000 children and hundreds of older adults experiencing homelessness. There are over 23,000 young people who are homeless and attending school.
Goals for the task force are Crisis Response, Provide exits from homelessness and to sustain momentum. The primary goal is to advocate for affordable housing for the homeless population. The task force has been able to collaborate with the government for some funding but have many community partners to work with for solutions. The average income to afford ‘affordable’ housing in San Diego is $92,000/year.
