PROGRAM:

ECPD Chief of Police Jeremiah Larson

Chief Larson grew up in El Cajon and attended Christian Elementary, Greenfield Jr Hi, and Granite Hills HS before attending college in North Dakota.  His Dad was in law enforcement with SDPD and he wanted to follow him there but alas EC PD got him first in 2002.

The Chief encourages his officers to be involved in the community by participation.  He stresses that laws are enforced fairly and safely.  He feels officer wellness is important and a comprehensive medical exam is offered annually, together with a workout program and mental well-being advice.

The department’s technology is being developed by various means: using the license plate readers program which captures the car, not the driver, is used for felony crimes, stolen vehicles, and missing persons, and the use of drones which at this time requires 2 officers per drone.  There are currently 125 officers with the capability to employ 135 active officers.

The department offers a Teen Academy, a Citizens Academy, and a Sr. Volunteer Patrol group.

Our Chief is hoping to start a police foundation for ECPD and is working on it already.

Prop 36 has had a positive influence on crime since being passed last November.
