PROGRAM:

Tom Normandy spoke on ‘fundraising’.

Tom’s first remembrance as a new member in 1983 was when the club sponsored a high school rodeo in Lakeside.

Tom says a fundraiser requires time and money and to articulate with the community, such as our casino night and pancake breakfast.  Good examples of our fundraising efforts in the past were the Krash Kornik Classic Golf Tournament, sponsoring the Summer Pops at ECPAC (now The Magnolia), Backwater Yacht Club a one-year event at the Rotary.  For various events, t-shirts were made up for the club to wear and the public to purchase.

When Tom was President in 1988, he needed a fundraiser, and the Bike for Site event was established.  Members donated everything needed and although only $2,000 was raised they didn’t lose money – a major priority when planning an event.

The club also held a fishing tournament as 3 members owned fishing boats and donated their boats for the tournament and afterward for personalized harbor cruises.  The money raised was pretty much net of minimal expenses.

Tom had lots of nostalgic moments to share along with helpful information for our newer officers.
