Yvonne Paris Passing of Gavel
PP Yvonne Paris
I don’t think this is working, so I will try to speak up. Ron. Be particular. Be careful. About maintaining possession of that gavel. Past president Keith MacArthur probably did the best job of any president I’ve seen in maintaining possession of his gavel. He goes on vacation and Vice President Bob Sanchez, in for him and promptly loses the gavel. So, before Keith retired, he gained repossession of the gavel, and there’s going to be a reckoning for you, Mr. Sanchez,
Remarks and promises.
President Ron Nevels
discusses Chris Bramwell positive comments about someone, highlighting the importance of recognizing contributions. Gil Frank is introduced as the Michael Jackson choreographer, and Ron encourages everyone to start attending meetings from next Monday. The need for more participants, including volunteers to pick up people from the convalescent home and bring in young people, is emphasized to revitalize the group. Ron reminisces about past experiences, including a humorous anecdote involving Mark Clifton and a strip club, to illustrate personal growth and the importance of perseverance. An unknown speaker asks for introductions, leading to a brief personal story Ron Nevels about his origins in St. Louis and Northern California, including a touching anecdote about his father’s job and experiences picking cotton.

For most of my adult life, I’ve subscribed to the belief that our life is a gift to us, and what we do with our life is how we pay that gift. I’m convinced that many of us feel the same way. After all, many are quite involved, well beyond the endeavors of the Lions Club
in August of 1997 long time, Lion past president Bob Hale passed away, he had what turned out to be an undying commitment to his fellow man. He believed so strongly in what we do that he left the amount of $138,000 to the club. A handful of dedicated lions set about to determine how this unselfish gift could have the largest impact, something that would do the most good for the most people for the longest possible time. After careful deliberation, the El Cajon Valley lions Foundation was established, whose mission is to provide a source of funds to those in need in the El Cajon Valley and certain projects of the El Cajon Valley Lions Club, including, but not limited to the sight and hearing impaired. Now, many fellow lions, family and friends of lions, have simply donated to their foundation. Many have included the foundation in their wills and living trusts and many have donated in the memory of a passing lion, the history of giving and current status of the foundation is best saved for another presentation. Since the passing of Bob Hale, the foundation has established a form of remembrance. It takes place each year our installation dinner. And now if you please, a few moments of silence to remember the many fine lines, who have passed this way before. 46, to be exact since the beginning of the Foundation.
