*NO LIONS MEETING NOVEMBER 11TH VETERANS DAY*

OPENING

Lion President Kiley Grunstad opened the meeting at 12:30pm. Lion PP Jerry Hollingsworth, Songmaster, led the Lions in singing “My Country Tis of thee!” Pledge of Allegiance was proudly led by Lion Mike Wasyliw. Prayer & Invocation was gracefully recited by Lion 1st VP Mercy Walters. Helen Keller Quote of the Week was inspirationally given by Lion Treasurer Paul Tremblay.

GUESTS

The following eight (8) guests were warmly welcomed: Captain Terry Masango from the Salvation Army. Captain Terry introduced his wife Rutendo Masango, Sandy Webb his office manager and Thandiwe Gregory. Additional guests included Bill Marchat, Holly Huntamer—wife and guest of Lion Dave Huntamer, Reggie Willie—wife and guest of Lion Christian Willie and Maral Poochiglen guest of Lion Paul Walters.

LIONS HAPPY BIRTHDAY’S

Congratulations to the following fellow Lions with Birthday’s during the month of November: Lion PP Walt Simmons—November 12th, Lion Bob Acker—November 14th, Lion PP Dick Rogers—November 21st, Lion Felina Balistreri—November24th and Lion David Huntamer—November 29th. Lion PP Jerry Hollingsworth led our fellow Lions in singing an exhilarating & invigorating  Happy Birthday song  with the Birthday fellow Lions Bob Acker and Dave Huntamer giving a Happy Yes $5!

COMMUNICATIONS/MAILBAG CORRESPONDENCE/ANNOUNCEMENTS

Flu shots today will be given by Lion Dr. Terry Winegar in the lobby. Suggested donations for the flu shots is $25.00 that will be given to our Lions Club Foundation. *Second Cabinet Meeting on November 9th  at the East County Association of Realtors on Broadway Ave. El Cajon . *Salvation Army Kettle Kick Off Party for 38th Annual East County Toy and Food Drive November 14th at Hooleys Pub & Grill Grossmont Center *Our Lions Board Meeting will be held on November 16th 6pm at President Kiley Grunstad work location 3855 Avocado #100 La Mesa, Ca. * Champagne Village Lions Club Fashion Show on November 16th. *Hero’s Brunch benefitting Guide Dogs of the Desert Saturday December 7th in Rancho Mirage, Ca. *Mother Goose Parade featuring our El Cajon Valley Host Lions Float on Sunday November 24th. * District 4-L6 Holiday Party on December 7th Crowne Plaza Hotel Circle North, San Diego, tickets $50 (no tickets sold at door)—will honor Pearl Harbor Day and our Wounded Warriors along with a table for the Unknown Soldier.

Membership Report was given by Lion Paul Walters who thanked our guest Maral Poochiglen who was at the recent Chamber of Commerce Breakfast.

Our Lions Pancake Breakfast on September 27th netted $2730.00 (with a nice gain over last year’s $2206.00 totals). Money’s are still coming in. We got some additional newspaper coverage in the East County Herald—thanks again to Lion PP Dick Rogers, PR Chair for his outstanding efforts on getting our El Cajon Valley Host Lions name out there in the press, TV,  media and community! VP REPORTS

3rd VP Van Wilsey reported that a Visitation will be held this Tuesday November 5th at the Santee Lions and to the Harbison Lions on Thursday November  21st at Ironside Park Community Center 326 Harbison Canyon El Cajon. Contact Lion Mike Wasyliw, Visitation Chair to sign up. Another planned Visitation will be to the La Mesa Lions on Tuesday November 12th at noon La Mesa Community Center 4975 Memorial Drive La Mesa—featured speaker will be Professor Pat Abbot who will be speaking on the Artic North Pole area. Our El Cajon Valley Host Lions Float at the upcoming November 24th will be constructed soon—Lion PP Ron Snow, Float Designer/Chair was present to allay any fears on our no fear/no sweat/on schedule/down to the wire float construction!

2nd VP Ray Ridlon reported that our Adopt a Street Community Cleanup featured five (5) fellow Lions that included: Lion Curtis Short, Lion Dave Huntamer, Lion Mike Wasyliw, Lion 2nd VP Ray Ridlon and Lion PP Jerry Hollingsworth. November 25th we will have a featured speaker from our Lions in Sight Program that will share where all our used eyeglasses go!

1st VP Mercy Walters reported that the District 4L6 Holiday Party “Honoring the Military” on December 7th is going to be a fabulous event. All Lions are invited and need to RSVP by December 1st.

HAPPY DOLLARS

Lion PP Ray Hackworth kicked off our Happy Dollars with his Happy Joke of the Week. Lion Tail Twister, Bob Acker, collected the following Happy Dollars & Happy Dollar Fun Fines: Lion PP Bob Moreau gave a Happy Dollar for his grandson who was hired by the SD Police Department! Lion Paul Walters gave a Happy $5 for Lion Christian Willie’s donation of new promo Lions Bumper Stickers that featured our Pancake Breakfast, Mother Goose Parade Float & Lions Sensory Garden photo @Santee Lakes! Lion Paul Tremblay gave a Happy $5 for his hunt for the best wineries in the county! Lion 2nd VP Ridlon gave a happy $5 for his newest 10th grandson! Lion PDG Len Blottin gave a Happy $5 Go Navy which he joined 55 years ago!

SPEAKER

Lion 2nd VP Ray Ridlon, Speakers Chair, introduced Captain Terry Masango who was this weeks featured speaker. Captain Terry shared the story of his recent mission trip to Zimbabwe Africa with a group from our local Salvation Army. The trip shed light on the great need in Zimbabwe (which is the homeland of Captain Terry and his wife Rutendo) where unemployment is at 70% along with rampant inflation. Our local Salvation Army headquarters in El Cajon serves over 8 East County cities with residential living for seniors, food & nutrition programs and assistance to disadvantaged families.

Funeral Services for Elaine Simmons, wife of Lion PP Walt Simmons, will be held this Thursday November 7th at 2pm at Singing Hills Memorial Park 2800 Dehesa Road El Cajon 619.444.3000. All Lions & Friends are invited.

A Special Thanks to Lion Dr. Terry Winegar coming out to give flu shots to our fellow Lions!

Honor our Veterans as we celebrate Veterans Day on November 11th.  The El Cajon Veterans Commission is having a Veterans Day event at 12 noon in front of the El Cajon City Hall (near the El Cajon Police Dept). There is also a major Veterans Day Parade on Monday November 11th at 11am which starts in front of the SD County Administration Building 1600 Pacific Highway and heads toward Seaport Village.

And don’t forget that Lions Pin you wear on your collar represents that you belong to the greatest service organization in the world…the El Cajon Valley Host Lions Club!
