Our LEO Club will help again at the Pancake Breakfast and thanks to all members who have volunteered.
Membership Chair Cathy Bailes: MIA
PP RAY’S RAMBLINGS: by Secretary Paul
A very regimented retired firefighter told his wife to respond to his 3-bell requests. Bell 1 take your clothes off. Bell 2 jump into bed. Bell 3 we’ll have sex. She asked “what about Bell 4?” and he asked what that was to which she responded “Bell 4 is I need more hose.”
HAPPY DOLLARS: PP/TT Bob Moreau got busy collecting the ‘big bucks’.
Paul T $20 – Thanks to Chris for a great picnic and for his donation (???).
Carl $? – for Jose’ (???)
Paul W $5 – Nine members attended the First Friday Breakfast last week and for pres. Chris’ great presentation.
Mark C $ – did not wear his vest to the First Friday B/F
Tony $1 – for messing up PP Ray’s joke last week
Yvonne $10 – Special thanks to pres. Chris and First Lady Cathy for opening up their home to the club for our picnic – great venue.
Tom H $50 – going on a vacation to Cabo and will be fishing in a Marlin fishing tourney and he beat Ray Hackworth’s 4 Kings at last week’s poker game with 4 Aces
Mike R $5 – Thanks to Bob Acker for a great presentation
Wally $? – Thanks to Chris for a great picnic
Gary Z – donated his $70 White Cane Brunch ticket to be auctioned and IPDG Mercy had the winning bid with $25
Acker $30 – to our Foundation (he reached this particular amount after a lot of mathematical equations) which is a portion of his winnings from last week’s 50/50 drawing
Jeff S $100 – got a new motorhome last month and lost $30,000 on the trade-in.
Roger $10 – missed picnic due to a vacation. Apparently on their way home the fan belt broke in their Sprinter motorhome. They were lucky to find a great parts store in Baker who found the part to fix the problem. They particularly like that they got towed via their Good Sam Roadside Assistance program.
PROGRAM:
TT Bob Acker told us a bit about himself – he was born in Holtville, CA. His family moved to La Mesa at the beginning of WWII and finally ultimately ended up in Pt Loma to a home Bob still owns. He attended Pt Loma High School and at the age of 15 worked on commercial fishing boats and finally got a sportfishing boat license , one of the first issued.
Bob graduated from SDSU with a Bachelor’s Degree and this is where he met his beautiful wife Susan. After they graduated college they married – 56 years ago. They have a daughter Kathryn who lives in Dallas, she is an attorney and has two boys.
In 1966 Bob began working for the City of El Cajon first as a purchasing agent then as City Manager. He retired after 15 years and worked on a sportfishing boat. Then the City of Encinitas hired him as a temporary City Manager while they searched for a permanent CM. Back to fishing until Solana Beach hired him as a temporary CM again while searched for a permanent CM.
In 1973 Bob joined our club sponsored by member Tom Murphy. Bob was already great friends with then Mayor Karl Tuttle and our own Trent Huls .
After his story Bob gave us some history about the Performing Arts Center now known as The Magnolia. Capt Rob filled in the blanks and a couple of related story’s were shared by members of times-past with ECPAC, Summer Pops and our club.
