OPENING

Lion President Mercy Walters opened the meeting at 12:30pm. Lion PP Jerry Hollingsworth led our Lions & guests in singing “You’re a Grand Ole Flag!” Pledge of Allegiance was led by Lion PP Ron Snow. Prayer & Invocation was given by Lion Dan Garrett. Helen Keller Quote of the Week was inspirationally given by Lion Carter Short.

GUESTS

Lion IPP Kiley Grunstad introduced the following three guests: Jeff Smith from Kirk Plumbing guest of PP Mark Clifton—Jeff’s Lion application was approved at Board Meeting and he’ll be installed at our next Lions meeting; PDG Scott Leslie—Spring Valley Lions;  Chris Benvenuto from Edward Jones Investments—guest of Lion IPP Kiley Grunstad.

PDG Scott Leslie announced a new zone project that will be a San Diego County Wine Country Tour on Saturday July 25th. There will be a bus available for those who would like to be transported on the tour. The Spring Valley Lions Club will have their Installation of Officers & Board Member this Wednesday June 17th at 6pm Anna’s Restaurant in Lemon Grove.

COMMUNICATIONS

Lion Secretary Paul Walters reported that the El Cajon Rotary Club will be having an “Evening in the Tropics” Fundraiser on Saturday June 27th with a special ticket rate for our El Cajon Valley Host Lions of $40.00 per ticket ($80.00 cost to all others). The El Cajon Rotary purchased 6 tickets for our Gunsmoke V Casino Night and we are hoping that we can reciprocate and support their fundraiser. Our Lions Foundation Board Meeting will be held this Wednesday June 17th at 6pm at Jamacha Junction Restaurant on Jamacha Rd. in El Cajon.

VP REPORTS

3rd VP Roy “Rocco” Collura, absent. Reports given by PP Don Anthony. PP Gary Sims gave an update on the upcoming Day at the Races at Del Mar Racetrack on Friday July 31st 4pm in the Shade Terrace Club House area with tickets at $25.00 each—we have only two seats left and  Signup sheets are on the table or call PP Gary Sims, Day at the Races Chair to RSVP. Lion Warren McKenna gave an update on Lions Padre Night Baseball Game for Friday August 21st game Padres vs. St Louis Cardinals with pre game get together at McCormack & Schmit’s Restaurant and tickets at only $25.00 in the section 121 field level– call Lion Warren to RSVP.

2nd VP Van Willsey, no reports and mentioned that he had a great time at our Gunsmoke V Casino night as the emcee host.

1st VP Ray Ridlon gave updates on our fabulous Gunsmoke V Casino Night. Installation of Officers & Board Members will be this Saturday June 20th at the Ridlon Ranch 16120 Loose Creek Road in Jamul starting at 4pm with plenty of good food and fun for all Lions & guests & kids! All fellow Lions are asked to update and confirm their information as listed in the Club Directory. All incoming VP’s need to fill their Committee Chairs ASAP before the end of June—this info is needed for our Club Directory.

Lion PP Ray Hackworth gave an update on upcoming Camp Jack on July 26th that will include 3 full days of fishing each week on Tuesday’s, Wednesday’s & Thursday’s from 9am till after lunch—we’ll be needing 3 Lion volunteers on each of these days to help teach the kids how to fish. The BBQ on Sunday July 26th will be hosted by our El Cajon Valley Host Lions who will help cook and serve the food.

GUNSMOKE V CASINO NIGHT HIGHLIGHTS

The Guns were smoking! We had a full house! We done Well! It was a very successful fun & fundraising event! Lion 1st VP Ray Ridlon, chair of the event gave a long list of much appreciated Thank You’s to the large force of Lions who helped at the event & attended the event—we sold over 200 tickets! Thanks to the set up & cleanup crews! Thanks to Lions Tremblay & Robinson for registering all our guests! Thanks to Lion Warren McKenna for making the Chinese Auction a big success! Thanks to Lion Sharie Hoops for the best 50-50 drawing we have had to date! Thanks to the great publicity efforts before, during & after the event by PP Dick Rogers! And a heartfelt thanks to anyone that we have missed mentioning! And a very Special Thanks to Renee Hoban and the Winchester Widows for co-sponsoring the fabulous event! Final tallies of the net proceeds are still coming in and we are looking at ending up raising $25,000 to $30,000!!

FLAG DAY HIGHLIGHTS

A Special Thanks to the following fellow Lions who helped at the Flag Day Ceremonies at Madison Elementary School on Friday June 5th: Lion Secretary Paul Walters, Lion Carter Short, Lion PP Jerry Hollingsworth, Lion Joe Corsi, Lion Ron Black and Lion Mike Wasyliw. The students and teachers were highly appreciative for the American Flags & info about the meaning of the flag. Lion Joe Corsi was recognized as serving as a captain in the US Navy and will come back to show students how to properly fold the American Flag. Another Special Thanks to Lion Secretary Paul Walters who gave a presentation to the students of Lion Dan Garrett at the El Cajon Salvation office on the importance of the American Flag.

HAPPY DOLLARS

Lion Bob Acker did plenty of wrangling & Tail Twisting in collecting the following Happy Dollars & Happy Fines: Lion Secretary Paul Walters gave a Happy $20 for all the Flag Day volunteers! Lion Treasurer Paul Tremblay gave a Happy $5 for the great success of the Gunsmoke V Casino Night! Lion Cathy Bailes gave a Happy $6 for a happy time at the Casino Night! Lion PP Roger Stebleton gave a Happy $20 after being grilled to pay up a few more bucks after his very lengthy absence vacation & galavanting absence this past year! Lion Dick Nasif will be billed a Happy $25 to pay the first fine for his sponsorship of Lion Dan Garrett who will become a Lieutenant in the Salvation Army after his upcoming 2 year seminary college studies! Lion Carter Short gave a Happy $5 for Gunsmoke V that went well and another Happy $5 for advance payment of PP Ray’s Joke of the Week! Lion PP Don Anthony gave a Happy $5 for the tremendous Casino Night! Lion Van Willsey gave a Happy $5 for mistaking identity of Lion Felina’s twin sister at Casino Night! Lion PP Ron Snow gave a Happy $50 for a 2 week extension of his Exempt Badge for his upcoming trip to San Francisco! Lion PP Grant Thiem was asked in abstentia to pay a $25.00 1st fine sponsor fine for Lion Justin Stewart (who was re-funded his recent $15 Happy Fine!) Lion PP Ray Hackworth gave a Happy $5 for his Joke of the Week to a tough crowd who pointed thumbs down!

TREASURER REPORT

Lion Treasurer Paul Tremlay gave his financial report update through May 2015 and a financial re-cap of our Gunsmoke V Casino Night. We had over 100 tickets sold at the door with total of over 200 tickets sold for the event, we beat our proceeds from last year by over a thousand dollars, we had $8150.00 in sponsorships, we made $3825.00 with the Auction, proceeds for the event are still coming in and we hope to finish up in the range of  $25,000 to $30,000 in net proceeds, we’ll be giving a check of approx $3,600 to the Winchester Widow’s for their incredible help in co-sponsoring the Casino Night.

ATTENDANCE DRAWING & CLOSING ANNOUNCEMENTS

Weekly Attendance Drawing Winner was Lion Mike Wasyliw who donated his winnings to the City of Hope.
