VICE PRESIDENT REPORTS:

1st VP Penny Duane: The El Cajon Lions is preparing for a focused meeting on the Gunsmoke event, with the first planning session set for Monday(January 12th) after the next lunch meeting, showing proactive event planning. Gunsmoke requires cross-team scheduling (venue, volunteers, sponsor commitments); resource: volunteer shifts and equipment.

2nd VP Grant Thiem III: __Update on school kids’ commitment to the speaker contest. Status to be provided within the upcoming week ________________________________________________

3rd VP Kat Zeman: Mark Clifton report __The El Cajon Lions successfully executed a large-scale Christmas basket program with outstanding volunteer participation and logistical coordination.

The Christmas basket initiative involved over 40 named volunteers, including Don Anthony, Chris Bramwell, Tiffany, Tom Hoban, and Bob Moreau, who helped pick up and distribute food and supplies, resulting in nearly all families receiving aid, with only one or two exceptions

Volunteers handled multiple tasks, including picking up boxes, bread, and pizzas, and managing distribution with support from local businesses and community members.

The presence of Joe Crawford and Keith managing crowd control at the food pickup site ensured smooth operations amid disruptions.

Angel played a key role in organizing and supporting the team throughout the effort.

The effort was so effective that leftover food was minimal, with Bob Moreau taking only a small amount to his church, indicating near-complete distribution.

A record of 12 families was served by Jim Singh and his son, highlighting individual contributions that boosted overall success

Coleen Owens Coordinated calls to ensure recipient availability, with interpreters engaged for non-English speakers, showing attention to inclusive communication.

Frank, Kat Zeman’s husband, stored turkeys overnight to maintain food quality, reflecting careful handling of perishable items.

The project demonstrated strong community spirit and operational teamwork, setting a high standard for future events.

PROGRAM:  Adam Smith – Fitness Trainer

Goal Setting

Setting clear fitness goals is one of the strongest predictors of long-term success in training. The most effective approach is to use small, actionable, realistic steps that build momentum over time. Below is a practical, structured guide you can use to set goals that actually work.

Exercise:

What it does

  • Improves heart and lung function
  • Boosts endurance
  • Helps with weight management
  • Reduces risk of chronic disease

Weight Loss:

Weight loss in fitness training works best when you combine the right types of exercise with sustainable habits. The most effective approaches—supported by current evidence—include a mix of cardio, strength training, and high-intensity intervals, all of which boost calorie burn and metabolism

Nutrition:

Good nutrition is one of the most important parts of fitness training because it directly affects your energy, performance, recovery, and long-term results. The latest guidance from Mayo Clinic and the American Heart Association emphasizes balanced carbs, protein, healthy fats, and proper hydration to fuel workouts and support muscle repair.
