PROGRAM:

Col. Michael Zolezzi from the Midway Museum had a great power point presentation and some super photos of the Midway Museum flightdeck.

Today (June 6th) is the 80th Anniversary of the Battle of Midway which was 3,500 miles from mainland United States.  The Midway missed WW2 by one week when commissioned Sept. 10, 1945.  The angled flight deck was added in 1955 in San Diego, and It was decommissioned in 1992.  Veteran’s groups had to put up a $1 million bond to the Navy to get the Midway to San Diego.  It was towed from Bremerton, WA in 2003 and opened as a museum June 7, 2004.  The museum is 5th in the nation for attendance.

There are two living survivors from the Battle of the Midway, one is 102 years old, and the other is 106 years old.

NOTE:  If any member wishes to chair or be on a club committee please contact the incoming Vice President IN CHARGE of that committee.  It is hopeful that all committee positions will be filled in support of our club.
