PROGRAM:
PP Gary Sims, winner of January Opportunity Drawing
Since the past 2 speakers were police officers, Gary chose to play cop and criminal. First the “Police” cap then a confession that he was the one who committed the offense.
It all began when he and 3 of his buddies played with fireworks/cherry bombs in the Dehesa Valley near Singing Hills Golf Course -back when PP Jerry Hollingsworth was an owner.
Gary’s Grandparents (he worked at the golf course) covered for Gary but just overnight then Gary was interrogated the next morning by an officer who was also a friend of G’ma * G’pa.
Then in 1972, he had another interaction with the police; this time he ran a red light, created an accident, and was charged with a DUI. Another DUI followed shortly thereafter so Gary has been to DUI school 2 times.
In 1985 he was pulled over in Nevada but only got a warning, for speeding only this time.
Gary was born in 1956 in Long Beach, moved to PA, and returned to Oceanside in 1970, or so, he met Gail and they graduated together from there. He then attended UCLA and took pre-pharmacy classes but couldn’t pass Chemistry. So, after 2 years, Gail came South, and they attended SDSU. He was working on the ground crew at Cottonwood Golf Course during his college years.
Gary graduated from SDSU with a degree in Business Administration/Insurance and owns his agency.
He and Gail married in 1980, have 2 children, and are grandparents.
Gary joined El Cajon Valley Lions in 1993 and PP Dick Rogers sponsored him. Gary was the club Lion of the Year for 2005-6 and was club President 2008-9.
Gary has enjoyed working on the Mother Goose Parade float and our pancake breakfast but most important is the friendships he has made.
